Category: Menu Editing Issues

Issue

The menu has disappeared in GoLive or when the page is opened in Layout view, the menu has been replaced by a Generic JavaScript Icon.

The menu works if the page is viewed in a browser.

Solution

Troubleshooting checklist

Please follow these steps in order to try to diagnose the problem:

1. Was the missing menu created with MenuMachine 1 or MenuMachine 2?

If they were MenuMachine 1 menus, you must have MenuMachine 1 installed to be able to edit them.

If they were MenuMachine 2 menus, MenuMachine 2 may not be correctly installed in your copy of GoLive.

2. Check that you have the version of MenuMachine that created the menus installed in the correct copy of GoLive.

Quit GoLive. Locate the GoLive application folder on your hard drive. Make sure it is the version of GoLive you use if you have more than one version installed.

Open this folder: Adobe GoLive x > Modules > Extend Scripts.

If you have MenuMachine 1 installed, there will be a folder called "MenuMachine" in the Extend Scripts folder.
If you have MenuMachine 2 installed, there will be a folder called "MenuMachine2" in the Extend Scripts folder.

Both versions of MenuMachine may be installed at the same time.

If you are missing the folder for the version of MenuMachine that the missing menus were created with, you will need to reinstall that version.

Download MenuMachine 1 here:
http://www.menumachine.com/mm1/download.php

Download MenuMachine 2 here:
http://www.menumachine.com/download/

If you have the correct version of MenuMachine installed, re-launch GoLive and open the site. If the menu now appears, you can now edit it. If the menu is still not appearing, proceed to step 3.

3. Test whether the problem that MenuMachine is not working, or the problem is the menu code or the page code.

Please open GoLive and answer the following questions to establish if MenuMachine is working:

If the missing menu was created with MenuMachine 1:

a. Can you see the MenuMachine 1 object in the GoLive Object palette > Basic set?

b. Can you place a new menu object on a new blank page in your site?

c. Can you place a new menu object on one of the problem pages in your site?

d. Just before you had the problem, had you downloaded any of these pages from your web server back into your local site?

e. Can you compress (.zip or .sit) and send one of the problem pages to support?
