Issue

Is it possible to highlight a menu item to indicate the current page that the site visitor is viewing?

Solution

You can do this with the highlighting feature which is built-in to version 2.1 and later. If you haven't updated to version 2.1 then you should do so before continuing.

To use the highlighting feature:

  1. Open the page in Layout view.
  2. Place a menu instance on the page by dragging it from the MenuMachine Objects Palette.
  3. Select the menu instance on the page.
  4. Open the MenuMachine Inspector and click the Highlight tab.
  5. In the Inspector, you will see the menu hierarchy listed as a tree view. Use the disclosure triangles to see hidden submenu items. Locate the menu item that you want to highlight and select it by checking the box next to its name.

  6. Choose the item’s highlight state. This is the state which will be displayed when the page is browsed.
  7. Save the page.

Tip: If you want a submenu block to be open but not to highlight a particular item, just choose an item in that submenu block and highlight it in the Normal state. This will make the submenu open but all items will appear the same (unhighlighted).
