In a Vertically Expanding menu, users are required to click on items to open the submenus. When an item is clicked, the submenu either doesn't open or it opens very quickly then closes again.
In a Vertically Expanding menu, if a top-level item has:
a. submenus items; and
b. a link applied in the Link field,
when you click on the item you are sending two messages to the browser:
a. open the submenu; and
b. open the linked page.
The browser tries to open the submenu on the current page but also goes to the linked page.
On this new page you have not activated the menu so it is shown in the closed state.
That is why the submenu is now closed.
Here are the options if you want to...
1. Click on a top-level item and just open its submenus:
- do not add a link to the top-level item, only add links to the submenu items
2. Click on a top-level link and go to a new page:
- add a link to the top-level item. The new page will open and the menu will be in its closed state again.
3. Click on a top-level item, go to a new page AND have the submenu open on the new page:
- add a link to the top-level item and then in the page that is opened, set the menu highlight options so that the appropriate submenu is open.
See page 70 of the MenuMachine 2 User Guide for instructions on how to use the Highlight options in the MenuMachine 2 Inspector:
