Category: Browser Issues

Issue

Menu items link to pages which should be shown in an iFrame or Frame.

The links are not working or show the linked page in the browser window but not in the iFrame or Frame.

Solution

This is usually caused by incorrect naming of the Frame or iFrame.

It is very important to use the correct naming conventions when naming Frames and iFrames otherwise they may not work in all browsers.

1. When naming a Frame or iFrame using the Inspector, choose Name & ID for maximum browser compatibility. Using Name or ID alone will not work in all browsers.

2. A frame name must not contain any non-alphanumeric characters except underscores (_).

3. A frame name must start with a letter, not a number.

4. Frame names are case-sensitive.

5. You can't use reserved terms (e.g. content, top or body) as frame names. It's hard to know what all these are but if you don't use words that are used anywhere else in GoLive, and you try to 'personalize' the names a little, the names should be safe to use.

6. Frame names should be unique single words e.g. my_nav or sidemenu or info_page.

7. Once the Frame name is correct, use that name in the Target field in the MenuMachine Editor to make a link open in the iFrame or Frame.
