Sometimes you may want to use images instead of using font colors and background colors to decorate the menu.
In this example the images below will be used in the top level of the menu and text menu items will be used for the submenus.
If you are following this tutorial, you may copy the above images to an open GoLive site, or use your own images. If you are using these images, make a new page in the site with a background color of #FAFFED.
Drag the MenuMachine Object onto the page. Create a menu structure with the four top-level items 'Home', Products', About us' and 'Email'.
1) Select a menu item in the Menu Tree View.
2) From the Image field, point and shoot to the file that corresponds to the menu item.
3) Repeat for the Rollover field.
4) Check the Use transparent menu background box as these .gif have a transparent background.
5) Repeat for the remaining top-level menu items.

You may have noticed that the images seem stretched. This is because the images are fitting to the menu item's size.
6) Select each menu item and use the Set Menu to Image dimensions button to set the menu item's Width and Height to match the image.

To continue making a whole menu, add some submenus to the menu structure. You may want to try adding various kinds of links to the menu items.
Note: As you add submenus, they will automatically take on the attributes of the 'parent' menu item. They will use the same image link and be the same width and height.
Make one submenu item e.g. 'Widgets', then use the Create Menu button to make the 'Things' and 'Stuff' copies.
Repeat for 'About us' to copy the menu shown here.
Select 'Widgets' again and change the font color for the normal and over states and change the height to 18px. Make sure the background is not set to transparent.
Then use the Copy Formats button to change the attributes, including Transparency but not including the Width attribute. Copy the attributes to the other submenu items.

Create a link for the 'Email' menu item. Type in an email address MenuMachine will automatically add the mailto: prefix.
Save the page (into the open site) and test in a browser. Your menu should look something like the one on the next page. |
