MenuMachine Manual

Static positioning

By default, MenuMachine menus will position themselves according to where you place the MenuMachine floating box on the page.

To position the menu manually, so it remains static, i.e. in a fixed position relative to the page content, you simply need to pick it up and move it. Or you can set the exact pixel-perfect location in the Layers palette (GLCS) or Floating Box palette (GL6) or you can nudge it pixel by pixel using arrow keys.

To move the menu, you must select the floating box that surrounds the menu object and drag it as you would a normal floating box.

Note: The hand is grabbing the outer floating box which, when selected, shows handles. Once you see this, you can then drag the entire menu into position, nudge it using arrow keys, or type in exact pixel values for the location in the Layers palette.

To adjust menu settings, you must click once on the MenuMachine object that is inside the floating box. (Do not drag the MenuMachine object itself from inside the floating box.) In GoLive CS, if you accidentally select the floating box, but want to change the menu setting using the MenuMachine Inspector, you will see a MenuMachine button in the Layers palette. You can click on this to invoke the MenuMachine inspector. (See image below left)

If you have selected the floating box/layer correctly, the Layer Inspector and Layer palette should look like the ones pictured.

In the Layer Inspector, you can change the values to set the static offset values. The Menu will always be in the fixed position you set here.

The default Z-Index (layer) is set to 1000 and the menu is visible.

This floating box is absolutely positioned: it will always appear at exactly the same position relative to the top left corner of the page. To adjust the GoLive layout view preview so the menu looks more accurate as you are working, go to the Getting accurate menu display in layout view page for instructions.

If a static menu position doesn't suit your page design, MenuMachine has a variety of Relative Positioning options that allow more flexibility. Go to the Relative Positioning page to see these options explained.

Important - Use Page Margins

Some browsers need page margins specified so they can display the position of elements accurately. Set your page margins to 0px (zero) pixel values for best results. Some browsers (Internet Explorer for example) will not handle anything BUT 0px margins correctly. Also, the page margins must be set in the page, not just in a CSS.

There are a couple of ways to do set the margins to zero:

1. Choose Special > Page Properties or click on the Page Properties icon (looks like a page with text on it) at the top of the page's window (Left side GL6, Right side GLCS) to open the Page Inspector.

2. In the Page Inspector, click the Page tab and enter values in pixels in the Margin Width and Margin Height text boxes.

OR

To set the page margin offset to zero:

Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac OS) in the page and choose Document > Set Page Margins To Zero from the context menu.
