Troubleshooting

Problem: I can't see my Component to remove or select it in GoLive CS2.

GoLive CS2 now displays Components more like the actual size of the content. A layer has no physical size on the page so the Component object is compressed vertically to 1px high but with no border.

Unfortunately, in a menu component, often the only item in it is a layer with the menu in it. In previous versions the layer marker (the little yellow square) was visible in the Component and you could see the outline of the Component with the green corner.

Now the Component is virtually invisible without the marker in it and the Component object is hard to select.

Solutions:

  1. Use GoLive's highlight feature to colour the component.

In Layout view, go to View > Highlight > Elements > csobj

This should highlight all Component objects in the page yellow. The menu Component will be a very thin horizontal line (hopefully at the end of the page). You should be able to select it, check the name of the linked component file in the Inspector is the correct one and if it is, remove it.

  2. If you only have one Component on the page, use the Special > Components > Detach all Components menu to unlink from the Component and make the menu selectable (and removable).

  3. Remove the component in source view. Only do this if you are familiar with editing source. You wouldn't want to remove something else by mistake.

  4. Add something to the Component page to make the Component object bigger. Add some text or an image to the Component page and save it.
This will alter the Component so be aware that all the pages linked to this component will be modified unless you uncheck them from the updates list. Make sure all pages are closed - open pages will not be presented in the updates list and will automatically be changed.

If the Component is now larger you should be able to select and remove it from the page. Then of course go back to the Component and return it to the correct state.
