Problem: Saving a Component does not update any open pages which have that Component on them.
Solution: Make sure any pages which are open are in Layout view when the Component is saved.
The Component should also be in Layout view as you save it.
When you make changes to a Component and save it, all pages which have that Component on them should update automatically.
If you have placed a Component on multiple pages, you are presented with a list of files to be updated when you save the Component.
Any pages which are open at the time will not appear in the updates list. Only pages which are closed will appear in the updates list.
But open pages do receive the update and changes can be seen after the closed pages have updated.
BUT...
This only happens if the open page is in Layout view.
Saving a Component WILL NOT update files which are open in another view such as Source or Preview.
If you accidentally have a page open in the wrong view, and it misses out on the updates, you can still update that page. Just switch it to Layout or close it and make another change to the Component and re-save. The open page should update to the latest state.
GoLive CS includes a feature that can update files dependent on Components, Templates, Smart Objects etc without opening the individual pages that use these Library files. To update site files that are dependent on library files:
1) Open a site.
2) Do one of the following:
• To check all Components, Templates, Smart Objects, or InDesign packages for updates, choose Site > Update Files Dependent On > Library or click the Update Files Dependent on Library button on the toolbar.
• To check specific Components, Templates, or Smart Objects for updates, select Templates, Components, or Smart Objects in the Extras tab of the site window and then choose Site > Update Files Dependent On > Selection.
3) If necessary, select files to update in the Update Dependent Files dialog box.
