FAQ

How can I copy a menu from one page to another?

I have finished editing my menu and now I want it to appear on other pages. How can I do this?

Solution: Copy and paste the menu to another page, duplicate the page, or use a GoLive Template or Component.

1. Copy the menu

  1. Always make sure you are working with the .site file open (site window) when you are editing pages that contain a menu.

  2. Open the page which has the menu on it. Make sure you are in Layout view.

  3. To copy the menu to another page, or to make a duplicate of the menu on the same page, locate the menu's placeholder () which should be at the base of the page.

  4. Click on it once to select it and then Copy it.

  5. When you go to Paste it, make sure the insertion point (I-beam) is at the end of the page you are placing the menu on.

  6. Paste the menu’s placeholder. Simple!

Note: if your menu is using "lock to image position", make sure you remember to place a "lock" image on the pages where you place the menu.

2. Duplicate the page the menu is on

Another method of coping the menu is to simply make a duplicate of the page the menu is on.

  1. Always make sure you are working with the .site file open (site window) when you are editing pages that contain a menu.

  2. Save the page which has the menu on it.

  3. Close the page. Go to the site window and select the page.

  4. Choose Edit > Duplicate to make a copy of the page in the site window.

3. Use the menu in a GoLive Template or Component

The advantage of these techniques is that the menu only has to be edited on one page. All pages created from the Template, or using the Component, will update automatically.

There are comprehensive instructions in this documentation for these advanced techniques.
